fluid retention?

if u have fluid retention at ur stomach can it cause some fluid to go to other parts example lower back or knee cap
cause both my lower back and knee cap are swollen from the past 2days and are really sore also
what u think?

Chosen Answer:

It wouldnt normally do that, but i wonder if you have a condition that is causing lower limb fluid retention?
Its best to be checked out by your GP you may need to go onto diuretics (water tablets) to offload the fluid. You may have a bursa of the knee which needs to be adressed.

Why are so many racehorses on Lasix?

Chosen Answer:

lasix is a diabolical disruptive use of a substance that even although it does help certain horses against bleeding. It is not only horses that you see who bleed in view through their nostrils but most horses who bleed most of the blood goes into their lungs, so you can imagine a horse which has had this substance to try to stop it bleeding actually bleeds where a jockey cannot see the blood coming out of its nose during a race and its lungs fill up with blood and it cannot breath, but racehorses being racehorses will keep running even though they cant breath, this is so so dangerous for a jockey and the other runners in the field. WHy not try SNAKE VENNOM it is a natural substance and not a drug. We cannot run any horses in UK that is on Lasix and this is correct.

why is furosemide has a brand name of lasix?

Chosen Answer:

FUROSEMIDE that is the generic name for the drug while lasix is the brand name used by a certain drug manufacturer. It is the same that both Coke and Pepsi are colas but each company names it something different.

how does lasix effect the loop of henle?

Chosen Answer:

It inhibits the Na/K/2Cl cotransporter (competitively binds to the Cl binding site) in the thick ascending limb of the loop, thus decreasing transport of the ions out of the tubule into the renal medulla. This means that the osmotic gradient in the medulla will be greatly reduced, so later on, in the medullary collecting duct, there is much less of an osmotic force available to pull water from the duct, so you lose the ability to concentrate urine, and therefore lose more water.

Fluid retention. Does anyone heard about this?

I have a friend that has this problem, she is retaining fluid in her abdominal area, she is going to the doctor, but they don’t know yet what is going on. She is on medication for diabetes, cholesterol. Does anyone know of such case.?? What is the cause and will she be okay again??

Chosen Answer:

This is often associated with circulatory problems. But she can not really know that it is fluid that she is retaining. She is only guessing. If she is not in any pain, or feeling lethargic, she is probably ok..

Question about pregnancy and fluid retention.?

I just got home from my two week Dr appointment. My Dr measured my stomach today and was slightly concerned. Apparently my baby belly measurement put me at 33 1/2 weeks. I am actually 29 weeks and 5 days. However two weeks ago my measurements were right on. My Dr said that at my next appointment if I am still measuring big I have to get another ultra sound. She wants to make sure its the baby growing and not fluid retention. My urine and blood pressure were all good. Actually my blood pressure was really good. I wasn’t worried at the appointment but now im sitting here thinking about it and now im starting to worry. I’ll definitely call my dr first thing tomorrow but I was just wondering if anyone else has had this happen? If so was everything ok. Thanks for any opinions…also keep in mind my blood pressure and everything else is good and I have had no problems to date.

Chosen Answer:

Drink more water, if it is fluid retention it will help get rid of the extra (I know, sounds weird but it is true). But I really hope it is fluid retention and not too much amniotic fluid, that is not good when it is amniotic fluid.

What is safe to take during pregnancy, that will help with fluid retention?

I’ve got really crazy fluid retention. I mean crazy. I can’t walk without the fluid on the top of my feet wobbling, I have zero definition between my legs, ankles and feet, my fingers have gone up 4 ring sizes and my face just looks terrible. But, the docs aren’t worried at all because it’s happened with my other pregnancies too and my blood pressure is always fine when they check it. They’re mildly worried about pre-eclampsia, but not overly worried because the blood pressure is always fine and the other symptoms are basically ‘normal’ pregnancy symptoms for me anyway and they’re not getting worse.
I am 36 weeks today and have an elective caesarean booked for 38+6, so it’s not that far away, but it’s really uncomfortable this time. I’m getting tingly and I can’t even try and go for a walk to stop that feeling because I have severe SPD and sciatic pain so exercise is not allowed. I’m drinking heaps of water, steering clear of salt as much as I can, but it’s still getting worse. My next hospital appointment isn’t until next week so I was wondering if you all might have some advice on what you know to be safe to take to try and get rid of some of this fluid?
Thanks in advance!!

Chosen Answer:

Hello, I did a little research for you, and these seem to be quite universal lifestyle change suggestions (all of which don’t really require much effort and are quite safe).

Of course I am going to first suggest your doctor, you should keep in regular contact to get your blood pressure checked if it is really worrying you – and as a plus you can always ask him/her this question!

Here are some other suggestions:

*Keeping cool on hot days

*Lying down frequently

*Elevating your legs whenever you are sitting/lying down. One way would be when you are sitting, grab another chair – place a pillow on the chair, and put your feet on it. Another would be to put a pillow feet side of your bed and rest your feet on it when lying down.

*Try not to stay standing for long periods of time.

*Avoiding tight fitting clothing/shoes/stockings (clothing that is comfortable).

*Have your partner or a friend massage your legs – from the feet up.

*Try not to get too stressed! I know this may be hard, but its always a good remedy for everything.

And just incase you haven’t: remove any rings on your fingers and toes.

What are some ways to get rid of fluid retention?

It’s not severe, I just have been so busy that I have not had any time to exercise in the past 1.5 to 2 weeks. What types of beverages can help to “flush out” fluid retention and/or bloating? I was thinking maybe Metamucil (because it absorbs water)? What about coffee? Any input is appreciated. Mature, serious responses only PLEASE. Until I can get out and be active again, I need a quick fix!!!
OK, but any ideas for food (besides salt) that I should avoid, or food that I OUGHT to eat to help with this???

Chosen Answer:

NO COFFEE. It will make it worse. Drink something pure. Ironically water helps get rid of water retention.

Try plain toast/crackers

Is it normal to have abdominal fluid retention 4 weeks postpartum? Does breastfeeding prolong weight loss?

I’m a new mom with a 3.5 week old infant and only gained 29 lbs during my pregnancy. In the last 3.5 weeks I’ve only lost 15 of those 29 lbs and I’m exclusively breastfeeding and started running again the last 2 weeks (I run about 4 miles or 45 minutes every day!) and also take my son out for a 45 minute stroller walk every afternoon. I’m a dietitian so I know how to eat healthfully and lose weight, but for some reason I seem to be maintaining and not losing any weight the last week or so. Any thoughts on this? Could it possibly be fluid retention? I did not have any swelling during my pregnancy nor postpartum (that I can tell).

Chosen Answer:

Sometimes the last few pounds tent to stick around a little longer. Breastfeeding is a great way to lose some weight. It causes contraction, which shrinks your baby pouch back down.

congestive heart failure and lasix?

my dog is taking lasix for her congestive heart failure and she is having accidents all the time…its like she don’t know its happening. It happens mostly when shes asleep but it has happened when shes awake. My vet said don’t limit her water so what should I do. I’ve never had to deal with accidents…I have always had a doggie door and now its happening everywhere in my home and often on my lap. Help I am desperate!!!

Chosen Answer:

Doggie Diapers might help. If she is bad enough it may be kindest to have the vet put her to sleep. I’m sorry she is having a rough time, you also. Good Luck.

Lasix for Thoroughbreds?

Do you feel that a horse has to prove itself to be a bleeder before being put on lasix?

or

Do you feel that the trainer should be able to put a horse on lasix at their own discretion?
Good question Greyt-mom, but in my experience, if we banned the bleeders from racing, there wouldn’t be many horses left to race.

Chosen Answer:

As I have worked in the horse racing industry for 5 years I would have to say I feel the trainer should be able to put a horse on lasix at their own discretion. Some horses seem to run better on lasix even some non bleeders.
