How to get rid of fluid retention?

I know drinking loads of water helps but is there anything else that gets rid of it?? Also how can you tell if you have fluid retention? What does it look like?

fluid retention is best recognized when you ankles are swollen. drinking lots of water does help but try not to eat that much salt and you wont retain water. However its a fact of life that if you are a woman you will, at least 5 days a month, have fluid retention.
