Meds for fluid retention and breastfeading?
I have really bad fluid retention at the moment , it I push down on my leg it leaves a dent it is becoming painful . I am currently breastfeeding my 4 month old daughter and do not wish to stop – are you able to take meds such a frusamide (sp) to get rid of the excess fluid while breastfeeding? is it safe?
I have no intention of taking anything without Drs consent – just wondering if it is worth spending the money going the dr if there is nothing they can do

i wouldn’t take ANY meds without getting them approved with your ob/gyn or pedi….fluid retention is fairly normal after having a baby so it may just take time to go away….make sure you drink plenty of water, exercise, and it may help to put your feet up. praises to you for not wanting to stop nursing!!! be sure if you discuss this with your dr you let them know you do not want to stop…you’d be surprised how many drs are against nursing & dont help to encourage you in any way!!

When I left the hospital with my son the doctor prescribed me a water pill to take because I was retaining water in my love handles and eyes. (Strange, I know) It pretty much just caused me to pee out the extra water and worked in less than 24hrs. I don’t know if this is the same kind of pill you are looking for, but it did work to get rid of the excess water. You should probably contact your doctor to figure out whether or not he/she can prescribe you something that is safe for a breastfeeding mom.
