Chosen Answer:

Women have an increased risk of water retention, due to the rise and fall of hormone levels. For example, the reduction in progesterone, in the week before menstruation, can cause fluid retention. Some experts believe the problem is related to abnormal fluctuations in blood sugar. Others believe it is sodium-related. When your blood breaks down progesterone in the run-up to menstruation, the kidneys are told to retain water and sodium. As well as this, a water-retaining compound (an anti-diuretic hormone) may be secreted, which causes more water to be retained. Diuretic treatment is not beneficial for edema related to PMS.

By not drinking ENOUGH water many people incur excess body fat, poor muscle tone and size, decreased digestive efficiency and organ function, increased toxicity in the body, joint and muscle soreness and water retention.

Drink MORE water. If you’re not drinking enough, your body retains water to compensate. It is a survival technique for your body is protecting you from dehydration.

Paradoxically, fluid retention is eliminated by drinking more water, not less.

Chosen Answer:

You really need to get back to your doctor. NOW! If he won’t help you, fire him, and find another doctor who will. No doctor should let you run around with a TSH of 467. It could have very severe consequences.
I read on a medical websites that fluid retention in the legs always includes some degree of fluid retention around the ankles, and that if ankle swelling is not present, the extra weight in the thighs is fat and not fluids. Is this true?

Chosen Answer:

No, it is most unlikely.
Fluid gravitates downwards. When we stand the ankles swell most.

Lasix (Furosemide) acts on the ascending limb of the loop of Henle, on the cellular level of the nephron, the functional unit of the kidney. Thiazide diuretics (like hydrochlorothiazide) act on reducing sodium reabsorption in the distal convoluted tubule of the nephron of the kidney.
In short, one drug acts on one place the cells of the nephrons in the kidney, and another one acts on another. It is not unusual to have one work, and another not.
Lasix is strongly effective for six hours, hence the name. It also drops patients potassium level rather quickly and effectively, so please keep your appointments especially to get labwork to monitor this. Best wishes.
